By developing the most important drug against HIV, a new type of solar panel that converts oxygen into hydrogen and uncovering the secrets of Sagalassos, KU Leuven researchers have a profound impact on our everyday lives in nearly all fields of research. That innovative character is deeply embedded in the way we teach our students, by integrating relevant guest lectures, taking an Interdisciplinary approach and opening the most advanced research and education facilities.

This means students will be able to learn from world-renowned experts and familiarize themselves with the newest technologies and research results during their studies.

    PROMISING CAREER PERSPECTIVES

Education is crucial, but at KU Leuven we also treat it as a first stepping stone to a promising professional career. We believe in helping students recognize their own talents right from the start. That’s why KU Leuven has developed an I-portfolio, which allows students to valorise all their extracurricular activities for their later career. The Student Career Centre prepares motivated individuals for the transition to the job market. Entrepreneurial students can turn to LCIE for guidance when they are thinking about starting their own business. As such, both national and international employers know KU Leuven as a pool for promising talents.

KU Leuven is also deeply embedded in an economically strong region, where lots of multinationals, (inter)national institutions and NGO’s have their headquarters. With over 120 active spin-offs, KU Leuven is one of the most important motors of 5 different science parks spread all over Belgium. Our alumni live all over the world and are connected in a range of international alumni networks.

    • Student Career Centre: helps students in their transition to the job market

LOCATED IN AN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY CITY

With almost 50.000 students in a city of 100.000 inhabitants, Leuven has a specific atmosphere that is quite unique in the world. The student dorms, study rooms and lecture halls are spread over and integrated in the city and can be next to a cosy little restaurant or a vibrant student bar. The presence of about 10.000 international students from about 150 different countries and an international meeting centre called Pangaea make it easy to meet people from all over the world!

As an international university, KU Leuven is part of some of the most prestigious international university networks worldwide. These partnerships allow all of our students and staff to go abroad to a wide selection of top universities. KU Leuven both welcomes and sends out thousands of exchange students each year, making it a global player in staff and student mobility.

    Accommodation Fees

KU Leuven only accommodates a small percentage of students and staff in university residence halls. The majority of students and staff usually look for housing on the private market.

Most landlords in student cities like Leuven or Ghent are private citizens who own one or more student houses. These houses are usually occupied by 6 to 10 students, while the landlord lives elsewhere. Besides private landlords, there are also professional rental companies who own or manage student houses, often with 50 rooms or more.

Flats and houses usually have private owners, but these owners often rely on a real estate agency. This means you will probably contact the agency rather than the owner for any rent-related matters.

In Leuven the university also offers Assisted Living to students with and without a disability.

Flats might have an extra cost for the maintenance of shared areas (hallway, elevator, …).
